Serious help needed, cat URINE on seat!!!

My soon to be at the pound cat, Bandit, had a veternarian appointment today and I aways put any of my cats in a cage on my passenger seat, with a thick towel under the cage. Bad moved he urinated in the kennel and the urine overflowed onto the seat and soaked through the towel. By the time I pulled over and put him the back of the truck, the damage was done. My truck absolutely reeks. I tried Febreeze and Adams interior cleaner, but to no avail, it is horrid in there right now.

Now besides

A) Rip the seat out and get a new one

B) Somehow sell the truck

What can be done? Is there other cleaning products can use on the seats? It has a tan cloth interior BTW.

Cat Urine is tough. The sooner you act, the better.

This would be a good time to get a hot water extractor. You can go to Target and buy a Bissel Little Green machine for about $80

Or you can try this.

If the urine is fresh, blot the spot. DO NOT RUB.

Saturate the spot with cold water.

Blot again. DO NOT RUB.

Repeat this process a second time. (This is to ensure you have gotten all of the excess “fresh” urine out of the carpet.)

Test the fabric in a small area to see if white vinegar discolors the fabric. If it does not harm the fabric pour a cup of white vinegar directly on the spot.

Blot. DO NOT RUB.

Repeat the process two more times to ensure you have gotten it good.

Then I'd use a carpet cleaner to get out the vinegar smell.

Then vacuum out as much moisture as you can with a wet/dry vac.

Sprinkle some Baking Soda on the area to absorb the moisture and some of the smell. Let it sit overnight.

Then vacuum up the Baking Soda in the morning.

If the smell is still there then you need to buy some Cat Urine smell remover that has enzymes in it that neutralize the urine.

For our dog's urine we use a product called "Natures Miracle", works well with the stain and the smell. I realize this is dog piss and not your cat's, but worth a try. It is an odor neutralizer. They make a skunk piss remover that worked well on our dog's coat when she got sprayed.

In the ER, we use Hydrogen Peroxide to get out staining stuff like Betadine and blood.

It fizzes up and we keep blotting it on. This has never faded my clothes, so I assume the seats won't be harmed by it.

Maybe a test on an inconspicuous area first.

Thanks. I'll have to see how bad it is today. I couldn't really tell if it got into the seat or the smell was just transfered from the towel, the seat didn't feel damp....well see...thanks again!

Hey Dana... Joe barfed in my car years ago...

like really barfed.

I got a can of coffee grounds and it absorbs the smell. Works wonders and your truck will smell like a Dunkin Donuts!

Good to hear that you got the smell out. In the future, go to the pet store and get an enzyme based odor remover made specificaly for removing urine odors. You just soak the area and the enzymes do the work. Those with pets use this trick when there is a "situation" in the house.
