Deep Scratch, What to do?

Alright, so I have this long deep scratch that goes to the metal which is horizontally across the driver side door on my 1997 Toyota Camry LE. I have tried using the Toyota Touch up pen but it made it even worse. So now I am thinking of using 2000 grit wetsand paper and sanding the ugly touch up paint down and then masking off the area and using a spray to paint it properly. Would you guys do it any differently? Thanks for any suggestions! And does Toyota carry spray cans of paint instead of the bottle or pen?

This is a picture of the colour of the car and how long the scratch is (excluding the ugly touch up pen job I did):

Don't know if this will be of any help. Check out the "Paint Chip and Scratch Repair" section in this post at autopia.org

Hey camry244,

This might best be left up to the Pro's! Masking off the area around the scratch might make the area look better, but once you remove the masking it will probably not match the rest of the Door? In this case a shop would probably redo it over a pretty large area, and then re-clear the entire door?

My $.02

Thanks,

Gee... a close-up photo might be helpful, and what do you mean by "worse?"

If you think you can get decent coverage with a pen, check out Langka, which helps even out the blobs -- if that's your problem.

Langka will even allow you to remove the existing touch-up to start from scratch. They've got a few different offerings so you might check it out.
