Gen6 Question about polish paint?

Hi

I am pretty new to detailing car. I just crammed a lot of reading about car detailing, not sure i can understand it correctly.

Here is my situation

I am trying to do a touch-up paint to my car.

1) To level the touch-paint, people suggest me soak the grit for over night, and apply lubrication while sanding. I am using 2000 grit. Is this all right ? If so, what happen if i did not do the soaking, and water lubrication.

2) After sanding, the paint look like dull. I then used 3M rubbing compound with a microfiber. It look better but i still not satisfy with the result. The color is still dull and not match with OEM color. Is there anything else I should do ? Or 3m rubbing compound is the last step.

Please give comment,
Thank you,

There is some term that i am still confused

-dry sanding vs. wet sanding?

-buff out - how do i do it? what does it do?

-polish in circular motion or back and forth. The bottle said circular, but everyone said back and forth.

thank you,

You don't need to soak the sand paper overnight. Dry sanding is a no no. You need to use a bucket of clean water and soak the sand paper in it. Then you can sand, making sure the paper stays wet. You could also use 4000 then 6000 grit paper to smooth it out more before using any polish.

Quick question

The touch paint is a mess, i know.

Wife want me to take it off, she would rather let it scratched as before?

Is it to late to do that ?

Posting some pictures might help. Its pretty difficult giving you advice from your descriptions. Don't use acetone to remove the touch up paint. You are probably stuck with the paint on the car once it has dried. Get some pictures up so we can see whats going on.

my car is less than 1 month old. I got the touch up paint from my dealer with the exact color code. My car is magnetic grey, 1G3.

I dont' know the color does not match at all. The touch paint is a little bit darker.

I will try to post pic tmr when i can.

Exactly, bad idea. Thats like spilling gasoline on your hood to remove bird poo. As for the color, be patient and let the sucker dry.

my color is metalic so it is hard to match up perfectly without blending it.

Obviously, I cant. So i would rather take it out, leave it the way it is.

Is using lacquer thinner ok to remove ??

Sounds like you need a touch-up professional, or get yourself some Langka.
