treating rust on a scratched wheel
a few months ago, I was making a right turn and I hit the right side of rear wheel on the corner. this caused very minor scratches on the hubcap and wheel.
fast-forward a few months. i was checking tire pressure yesterday and I noticed the wheel started to rust. it wasn't much -- it was just in the exposed bare metal caused by the scratches. about 1-2 millimeters or so.
nevertheless, rust grows and i don't want this to become a headache down the road. i'm thinking about either sanding it down and painting that area over with black paint or slapping some silicone on the area to keep it unexposed to water.
what do you think? also, if I go the repaint route, should I prime the area after I sand it? i mean, it's such a small area, seems like a few coats of paint would work as well as priming...
