Removing Fence Stain Overspray

I stained my fence a couple of days ago with a pump sprayer. Apparently the spray ended up on my truck. What is the best way to go about removing it? It made the whole truck feel rough to the touch. Would this be the job of clay or polish?

Try washing it, clay bar, polish then wax and see if that takes care of it, it should if the stain is fresh, good luck!

Thanks, I was really hoping to leave out the clay step if possible. Will the polish alone take it off?

Probably not, the clay will remove most of it.

Claying is safer than polishing -- if that's your apprehension. Try a section and see for yourself.

Update

Well, I clayed, polished, and waxed yesterday to try and get the fence stain off my truck. The clay did nothing (to my suprise), but the Pinnacle XMT and Porter Cable did the trick. However, I did have to go with the more aggressive polish from XMT as the stage one wasn't getting it done. Finally, I finished it off with a coat of Klasse and she's good as new!

If overspray is really stuck on good (i.e, there was little protection on the paint or it was a penetrating stain), an aggressive clay would be recommended.

Glad to hear the polish approach worked out.

I didn't realize there were varying levels of clay, any more information?

At the "pro" level, there's more aggressive bars, but they can tend to introduce marring, though it depends on the paint. Meguiar's pro line, S.M. Arnold, and others sell pro clays but they run $25-30 for a large bar. They will, however, do the job of removal quite well.

Consumer and enthusiast clays are mild.

It's nice that your polishing did the job, but it can be a tough call as to which approach is best for a particular situation. If you have to hunt down an aggressive (and expensive) clay, the extra work in polishing instead starts looking attractive.
