Clear coat on rims

Anyone ever taken the clear coat off their rims?
Mine are peeling and looking REAL ugly.

I've found some products people are talking about (Aircraft Paint Remover)

Even after i take the clear coat off, what do i need to do next?
Biff and shine? Spray a new one on? Does it need a primer?

Keep in mind that when you remove the clearcoat, you'll also remove any color coat if you have one. Not sure what style of wheel you have. But at auto shops like Checker/Kragen/Pep Boys/etc., you can get the aircraft stripper as well as a wheel coating and you can re-do them clear or silver or whatever. You can also polish them with a PowerBall and some PowerMetal polish and just keep them shiny that way if that floats your boat -- or polish them and then clearcoat them.

On another note, has anyone ever had their wheels re-cleared?

Touch up factory 16" alloy's on '04 Highlander

the PO of my '04 4WD Highlander ran the 16" alloys with the snows. So where the clamp on weights were corroded due to disimaliar metals and salt. I run steelies with my snows now. How do I touch-up finish in the corroded spots now that they will be for summer use only?

Take them to a powder shop that does powder coating. They will blast them and powder coat just to what you want. You will love the look and they will last much better than what you had. Look at a gray color or such.

A buddy of mine made the mistake of running his new Subaru in our Montreal winters on his mags. Next summer he had them blasted dipped then powder coated (I believe a low temperature setting coat because of the aluminum. I am not sure, but I think he payed somewhere between 30-60 a rim. I will have to check. Oh and they look awesome. This is a few years ago and still looking so.
