micro black spots all over the car..

Hello,
Im facing an issue with a lot of specks on all the body panels on my car.

It almost looks like my car was parked next to another car in a paint booth and my car caught the overspray.

The specks are black-brown in color, catch if you run your fingernail on them and take a forceful scratch before they smudge.Im not sure if they are tree sap;The only thing that I can think of is that in my prev subdivision they used to pressure wash the sidewalks everyday.maybe spray from that.?

Soap does not wash them off..
rubbing alcohol does nothing...

Oreilly's Engine degreaser takes them out after a bunch of rubbing.Im concerned about the long term consequences of this..I did wash the panel immediately with soap and water though..

any safer/better ideas than this?

claybar

that crossed my mind but would you know what this stuff is?Isnt claybar supposed to be for mild surface imperfections?

I will follow up with a pic but these are stuck pretty hard to the surface.

its worth a shot I guess..thanks.

Agree. Wash well, then try claying. Claying will remove overspray, tar, and other things that might match the description you gave.

Let us know how it works out.

Did you try to wax your car? My Highlander did that, I dunno what it is, but my theory is the wax bonded to some microscopic contaminants and it got bigger. Claybar will remove them, my Highlander is as smooth as glass right now.

I may know what your talking about with the spots. I recently had the same thing on my truck, it was either from road work i drove through or i got caught behind a semi that put out enough exhaust smog that i couldn't see anything. The semi crap just smeered my windshied, i noticed after i got away from it. But, i had just put nxt wax on, so the tar/soot from the truck came off with a nice easy wash.

The claybar is your friend.

Semi soot is very possible. Also the particles could be fallout from the brake pads. When you brake the pads create fine brake dust that attaches to the clear coat. Typically the most build up can be found on the back half of the car and the rear bumper. Claybarring will remove the brake dust and other things like tar and sap. Apply a fresh coat of wax after the clay.
