PC Vibration

Well, I used my Porter Cable for the first time today with the Edge system. However, I was very disappointed with the amount of vibration in the unit. It was literally making my hands tingle and itch it was so bad. I started out with the counter weight installed and thought maybe I wasn't supposed to be using it since there was so much vibration so I removed the counter weight and it was a good bit worse.

Am I doing something wrong? It was much more difficult to use than I expected. The results were great, but the tingling hands were killer!

It's not the smoothest machine in the world and it can tend to vibrate, but you also need to be sure you have the correct counterweight for the backing plate and pad system. There are both 5" and 6" counterweights depending on what model you have or what your setup is.

Hold it tighter. Try it without the side handle. Change the speed.

There's no backing plate with the Edge System, sounds like I'm just going to have to get used to it but I really didn't think it would be THAT bad. With the pad that comes with the PC there is practically no vibration and I guess I expected that would be the case with others...I was wrong. Oh well, it's only a couple of times per year.

Oh, right... that newfangled stuff.

Check with your dealer to confirm if you have the recommended counterweight or not.

If you have the 6" pads and the 5" counterweight, I'd gamble that a 6" counterweight would be in order.

This might be hard to believe but you will get used to the vibration. It's inherent with any random orbital machine.

I know this because I also use the PC random orbital sander for finish work and fine detail sanding and when I first used it I almost started crying from the "weird" feel. But you will become used to it. Everyone who uses the sander for the first time complains about the vibration, I just smile!

Good luck!

Thanks, that's good to know that I'll get used to it because it really sucked this first time!
