Gen6 2008 camry and swirl marks

Hey all, i have a 2008 Camry, and I'm starting to get swirl marks, and a few water stains i cant get out. Anyone know a product i can get/use to remove/avoid the swirl marks and the water spots. I currently use turtle wax zip wash and a soft car wash sponge . Then i dry with a terry cloth. I also wax it with zymol wax.

If you haven't read the "How to Detail" posts yet, they're a good place to start...

There's also an abundance of information at autopia.org

Also here...

Swirls are primarily caused when you wash your car. A combination of your wash media and technique are usually the culprit. There's plenty of info on both at the links I gave you. In a nutshell...

1) Use a good car wash shampoo with high lubricity. The better ones available off the shelf are Meguiars Gold Class, Meguiars NXT car wash, etc. Can't comment on the zip wash, but can say I've never seen it promoted at any of the detailing sites I've researched on. See links for other suggestions.

2) Use a good wash tool. Sheepskin mits are the most overall accepted washing tool. Grout sponges have become popular with people at Autopia.org and I've used them with success. They're the only sponges I've seen get a widespread thumbs up. Some people like MF mits, others feel that they don't release dirt well enough.

3) Use a good drying tool. MF drying towels are the standard these days.

4) Use good techniques. Again, there's an abundance of info at the links above.

To remove existing swirls you'll need to polish. This can be done by hand, but better results will be achieved using a polisher like the Porter Cable 7424 DA polisher and compatible products.

Do some research at the links and you'll be well on your way.

You probably mean spiderwebbing (different from swirls, which are generally buffer-induced).

As eddie926 indicated, washing can be a major source of problems, but drying can be a problem too.

Of course, quality products (hint: upgrade from what you're using). You don't need to spend a lot of money, though a good microfiber towel can cost anywhere from $7-15 whether you go "good" (if you can find one at the stores) or excellent (online).

With a dark colored car, you may consider a Two Bucket Wash Method and investing in a couple of Grit Guards which help keep sediment at the bottom of the bucket.

If you're working by hand, a nice 3-step wax system can help make the vehicle look a whole lot better.
