Roof Interior Queston

Whats the best way to prevent and repair sagging roof Fabric? I just got my 98 corolla and its starting to come down on the passenger side.

The fabric has a foam backing which is then glued to the headboard. The foam backing is likely disintegrating and making the fabric come loose.

You used to be able to get a headliner kit at Pep Boys and other auto stores for about $30, or you could also buy headliner fabric from even a Jo An's craft shop and get a compatible spray glue.

You must remove the headliner from the vehicle (which can be a challenge -- hopefully someone has discussed this elsewhere already for your model), clean the disintegrating foam backing from the headboard, and use the heavy duty adhesive spray suitable for headliners.

Many shops will do the job for about $100.

IMO, the only way to truly fix a headliner is to have it totally stripped and re-lined with new foam and new fabric. I live near an upholstery shop that specializes in headliners. It costs around $150 and that includes removing the headliner and re-installing it back into the car.

Oh, and stop smoking cigarettes. Cigarette smoke weakens the adhesive that holds up your headliner. Plus it stinks.

I don't smoke, but the person who owned the car before me might have. I'll have to let my cousin know this though because he smokes in his corolla and he needs a new headlinder bad.
