Repainting roof

The roof on my truck has a couple of bad sun spots forming, and the whole thing is totally washed out. If I were to sand it down, mask it, and prime it, and buy a cheapo paint gun (I believe I can get paint to match from a local shop), and tried to do a DIY paint job on it, what kind of result do you think I would get considering I've never done it before? Any tips? What kind of paint gun is good? Thanks.

I dunno. I'd leave it to the pros if you care much about your truck. I bet just painting the roof wouldn't cost more than a couple hundred $.

Hmm, you're proabably right. I was just thinking I could save myself a little $$, but I'd probably f it up.

By the way, I was reading youre detailing write up, and when I used Turtle wax polishing compound and an orbital buffer, or even by hand with a clean applicator, it left like crazy lines and swirls in my paint, so it made the problem much worse. What do you do about that?

That Turtle wax was probably too abrasive. I don't like anything that has the word "compound" in it.

Just get some medium and fine polish. Like Adam's Swirl Remover and then Fine Machine polish. Or if you want to try to find it locally at paint shop or parts store you can look for some Meguiars or 3M medium polishes.

K, thanks. Quixx scratch remover did a pretty good job on a few areas too, and actually managed to remove some oxidation off of the side of my bed. It's $15 for two .88 oz. tubes, though, so you can't exactly do the whole car with it. And you have to really put some elbow grease into it too. But I'm happy that it can take off some oxidation before it gets any worse. Stinking Phoenix sunshine.
