Yeah, that guy does serious work. That one car took him 55 hours to do. He charges thousands of dollars for that kind of detail job too. The wax he was using cost several thousand dollars a jar.
Why is the car sitting in a catch mat when it's being washed?
My guess is to prevent contamination of ground water or some other body of water nearby. Where I live, the drains in the street go untreated into some body of water.
The water that's used to wash a car contains all sorts of chemicals from the car and those used to clean the car. With the mat, the water could be collected and then treated or filtered before disposal.

What, you think he should keep it under glass? The car was dirty, and there were bugs on the front bumper from what I guess would be driving. Seems like a mild side effect from the activity the car was built for.
