Simple Green

Hey guys

I debaded my tailgate and used simple green to remove the adhesive.

It's kinda late but is simple green safe to use for applications on the clear coat.

IT was diluted, then I sprayed glass cleaner on it, then soap and water, then polished the area with Z5 and Z1....

Looks good, but still some goo on it if I rub my hand across it.

Should I just leave it alone now? Did the Simple Green do any damage.

Thanks

I doubt the simple green did any damage. You said you diluted it. As long as you didn't let it sit on there for HOURS... I'm guessing you're fine. You might go and pick up a bottle of Goo-Gone and try that. It's AWESOME stuff and is totally safe for paint/clear coat.

Ive washed entire cars with diluted simple green. Works really well to get the bugs and tar off, but i havent had any experience with the "goo" you speak of. Last time I washed my truck I used about 3/4 car soap and 1/4 simple green and water of course, and the bugs from the front bumper basically fell off.

Bug and tar remover that you get in the car wash section at Wal-Mart will probably work also.

I would not use dawn dish soap on my truck. That will eat on the clear coat. If you have already used the simple green and have used all other measures I would use a cleaner wax to get the rest off. If its just a little bit that you can feel I would just go with the cleaner wax.

I agree that one should not normally use dish soap on the paint. I doubt it will eat the clear coat...just leave it unprotected against the elements, that will kill your clear coat. But if he wants to get everything off....simple green included.... dish soap is the way to go this one time then rewax.

Agreed. Its not something to always wash your truck with.

Also on the issue of trying to get shit off. I have a strip of tint across my windshield that i absolutely hate. But above my rear view mirror there are tiny black dots and i believe that when it comes to taking the tint off of that its going to be a nice ability of patience. Anyone have any suggestions?

I would take it to a tint shop and ask. They may say, yeah use so and so product and just be careful.

Simple green is a degreaser. If you spray it on wax, it could possibly take the wax off.
