Newbie Detailer ?s

Well I am going to be buying my dad's 07 camry LE this weekend. It is defiantely super dirty. It also has alot of little scratches especially around the handles. What products will I need to do the basic clean, clay, polish and wax. I watched all of Adam's videos and I don't think im going to want to spend hte money for all of what they used. I lived right near the beach if that changes anytihng. I was planning on getting one of these kits with maybe a few extras of whatever i need. Also i can do everything by hand and without a air ocmpressor right. I know it will be longer but i don't have that option. Also i don't have a garge so it obviously always outside. I just want to get it shining like new again. Also i plan to clean the interar at the carwash since i think it will be alot easier and not as hand nescessary. Thanks

Adams products are great. I highly recommend them. A lil on the expensive side, but they work great. You probably don't need the machine kit if you're ok doing it by hand. But you wont be able to get rid of all the scratches and swirls w/o a machine. I have a black 07 camry se. It looks good after detailing and i do everything by hand.

If cost is a concern you could get started much less expensively by picking up some products at your local Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts, or even Wal Mart or Target, etc. Meguiars and Mother's both sell some decent off the shelf products at those retailers. They'll be less expensive, and you won't have to pay shipping.

Nothing at all against Adams. They make some great stuff. Just sounded like cost might be an issue.

Another comment.

Regarding the machine essentials kit. If you DO ever decide to get a machine and you end up getting a Porter Cable 7424, I wouldn't use 7.5" pads. That's too much pad for the PC if you want to do paint correction. I wouldn't use anything bigger than 6" pads with the PC and I'd think seriously about getting some 4" pads too.

The bigger the pad, the bigger the area that the force you apply is spread over, resulting in less overall effectiveness. The PC is a great machine to start off with, but not powerful enough to use with 7.5" pads IMO.

A moot point if you're not getting a machine, but just thought I'd mention it.
