Clay bar lube

Well here's one for you guys, since I know you're all experts in the area of lubes

The mothers clay bar i bought says to use only the lubrication they provide (quick detailing spray, which btw smells oddly like soda). The spray seems to run out pretty quickly when using the clay, so do you think if I diluted it with some bottled water or just used something else would it be ok, or does it really have to be full-strength detailing spray?

When that happened, I just used another brand of wax polish.

Just buy another bottle of any brand quick detailer, it does the same job. Or you can use some soapy water, preferrably some car wash soap.

^Yea, I thought of that too, it says right on the bottle of detailer do not substitute soapy water, so i was wondering if you guys think that is for real or our they just trying to sell more detailing spray?

You want to use a detailer instead of a soap solution.

Soap doesn't have near the amount of surfactants, and soap can quickly turn your expensive clay bar into a wad of mush.

A bottle of detailer should last you one or maybe two clay jobs... it depends on the vehicle. You might be using too much lube.

^Never too much lube dude.

Seriously though, maybe I'll hit up the wally-world and see if there's any detailer spray not quite as expensive as the mothers stuff.

You can also try using some ONR, really great stuff, and not expensive when you buy by the gallon, considering what you can do with it.

Soapy water can possibly break apart clay (Meg's wash on my Clay Magic does it), so I've used QD until I found ONR.

Yeah, same here. When I ran out of the detailer that came with the bar, I just went and bought the cheapest detailer that Walmart had. I use Mequires for after cleaning. I did use some plain water on a small area once in a pinch, but wouldn't do much that way.

Last weekend, I went out to WalMart in search of a new clay kit. They didn't have Mothers, but they did have Meguiars. It's nice that they have (2) individual bars/ rectangular container, a MF towel, wax cleaner, and polish-lube.

6 glasses of vodka+cranberry, and a bottle of merlot, and it was completed.

Can you buy a clay bar kit with vodka included?
