Gum on the hood...

So I went to visit my father last week in the Bronx. Park my car as I always do, when I come out I notice something on the hood. Paid no mind, figured it was bird poo, will be gone with the next wash.

My car sits most weekends as its more of a commuter car. So after 4 days of sitting, I go to it on Monday and notice that its not bird poo but seems like GUM... Who puts gum on a car...

I went to the hand card wash and they could not get rid of it, I briefly tried goo be gone when I got home a few minutes ago, it was dark and drizzling so I did not try to hard.

Any ideas... I was thinking either bug and tar remover or wd40... It's hard as a rock right now.

maybe it's like gum stuck in hair, where peanut butter takes it out

You might want to try ice cubes rubbed over the gum soft enough so you don't cause scratches in the paint. The gum should come off in clumps or little balls due to the cold. It is a cheap thing to try and if it doesn't work you are out no money. If you try different chemicals, you might want to test them on some paint in the engine compartment first to make sure they won't cause paint problems.

i would leave it on, in the sun, for about 5-10 mins and try to work it out from there.. if you can get most of the gum off, use a claybar to get rid of the residue.

Use a heat gun/hair dryer on it for like 30 secs then use Goo gone. Be patient. That worked for me

Patience unfortunately is not one of my strongest features.

Another problem I have is that applying anything is hard... Since the location calls for it to move on down in a sense. See picture below to see what the location is... Any advice on that.

when debaging my car the glue came off best when i used rubbing alchohol and paper towels. also i know this sounds babaric but try sawing at it using dental floss. Think debaging... same concept something stuck where you dont want it.

It was not GUM it was CARAMEL

Who puts caramel on the hood of a car... Here I am having doubts about my purchase and some idiot comes along and puts caramel on the hood of my caramel, which the sun dries out and takes the paint with it. I'm guessing when I took it to the car was, that chunks of the caramel came off abbrasively and took chunks of paint with it. This is VERY VERY disturbing. The last bit left, the piece I was complaining about, came out little by little with no further damage, using bug and tar remover.

So what now, now I have chunks of paint missing in the hood of the car about 1" x 1"... Should I take it to an auto body see if they can touch it up. I don't want to paint the whole hood, but this is annoying to say the least.

Try finding someone in your area who does airbrush touch-up! They can generaly match the current paint and offer a touch-up with no brush strokes that is nearly flawless! Good Luck!
