Is the Natural Shine Protectant from Meguiars any good?
The only plastic/rubber protectant I've ever used was Armor All, which was very shiny and extremely greasy, but it always worked for me. When I bought some Meguiars NXT 2.0 Wax a week ago at AAP (haven't tried it yet, and good?), I got the Natural Shine Protectant as a freebie, I tried it and it isn't shiny at all, like the label said. I don't know if I like it because I like to see the results, how can I tell if it's any good? Any opinions about this product? I know all of you hate Armor All with a passion, but I like seeing the results of my work (IE: Shiny, Greasy) and they also now make a natural finish Armor All as well that seems similar to this product.

Never used it myself, so I'll be interested to see what your experience is with Meguiar's. I've always used Armor All myself, and on those few occasions I use it on the interior I apply it, then rub all the surfaces down with a dry towel to get rid of the oily sheen, and oily appearance. Always been good stuff, though, as far as I'm concerned.

I bought some the other day and it works very well. I sold my 05 tacoma and got an 02 infiniti qx4 (i still visit the forums here because qx4 detailing forums arent nearly as good). The inside needed some nurishment on the dash and other parts inside. i recommend it.
I'll buy some myself as soon as my Gold Class runs out.
Dunno about the Natural Shine Protectant as I don't like spraying chemicals on the dash and having to inhale them once the sun starts to beat down.
I'm curious as to why you're buying it over the gold class, I've used gold class before and really liked it, but I see the NXT is about $5 more, so is it better? I really think the colors on the packaging are stupid looking, but don't judge a book by its cover I suppose. What's your experience?
As far as the Plastic Protectant goes, I'll use it until I run out, but then I'll buy armor all again, it just goes to show that the bandwagon isn't always a good thing to follow, armor is a good product!

If you want to see some shine that slowly goes matte, pick up some Aerospace 303 Protectant. It goes on slightly shiny and eventually goes matte once it dries. It doesn't leave the film on the glass either from my experience.
NXT 2.0 is a great wax. It really is hydrophobic but I've moved on to Collinite 845 for more durability and ease of application. You won't be disappointed with NXT 2.0 if you have not tried the higher end waxes lol

I am looking for a wax that can't be found at the local commercial auto parts store (I can do a little better than that can't I?!), but costs about $30 for the same size container as found with the Meguiars Gold Class, NXT 2.0 and Cleaner wax, and I want a paste form like the above named waxes. What would be a good wax for me?

NXT lasts longer because it's a synthetic wax, Gold Class is carnauba-based, so it doesn't last as long. IMO, dark colored cars look better with GC as it gives the paint a really deep, wet look. The beading power of the NXT is definitely better. It layers easier than GC too.
But the advantage that GC has over NXT is price, I can find it on sale every once a while for around $10 or so, but you can't really go wrong with either as Meguiars makes good stuff for the money.

Hmm, paste form huh? How does the underdog Collinite 476 sound to you? One of the longest lasting synthetic/carnauba combo waxes made OTC. The only problem is just finding it since there aren't many places to carry it (so I usually buy it online). If you are up for slight learning curve, then I would recommend that as a paste wax. By learning curve, I mean super thin application, and a specific curing time. If you ignore both points, you will get the hardest workout in your life. I'd recommend it because the looks and longevity are well worth the price of the paste.
If you would like the liquid version, Collinite 845 is the exact same but liquid. As it is liquid, the longevity isn't as long as 476 but it still outlasts any of the OTC stuff you listed. Super easy to apply thin and it is super easy to remove once it cures
Of course, if you want a wax other than OTC, the real Zymol products are generally great starting points, as is P21S Concours wax. It all depends on what you want. Zymol looks and lasts longer than P21S but is destroyed by the Collinites in terms of durability. As I am a person who likes to remove all previous waxes every month or so, either Zymol or P21S are fine if I do not decide to use my boutique waxes. For longevity, I lay a layer of 476/845 and a layer of carnauba wax, such as Dodo Juice Supernatural or Swissvax Concorso for the extra "pop".
Hope this helps

I was actually looking into the P21S Concours wax, but I didn't know much about it, your Collinite seems like an interesting and high performing product, but at only $15, is it really that good? I'll have to look into Zymol too!

P21S has a super wet look but the durability isn't really that great compared to others in the price range. TBH, Collinite is the best bang for buck in terms of looks but is pretty good at durability. Unless you go around the $100 range or above of waxes, most are nothing special. The only differences are durability and looks. As Colli's are usually Carnauba/Sealant hybrid waxes (to my eyes), a strict Carnauba wax will usually blow it out of the water. It just wont last as long thats all.
Zymol Cream/Carbon are good waxes as a beginning to Zymol. You can also try your hand at hand application, which is something you may or may not have to do if you decide to pursue boutique waxes such as Swissvax or Dodo Juice SN. Personally, the Cream mix has a great look and pretty decent durability. I have gone 2.5 months on a DD that is outside 24/7 and weekly foam cannon washes and it was still beading. It would have lasted longer but I decided to put a fresh layer of Supernatural on so I stripped it off lol

If you want to try a great wax that won't set you back much cash, try some Meguiars #16. you can't get it retail any more, but there's somebody selling it on eBay right now for $14.99 delivered. Here's the link, and no, I'm not the person selling it, so I have no personal interest in you buying it...
She was selling it cheaper before, but word got out on Autopia.org and people started buying multiple tins, so she raised the price. Still a good deal at $14.99. I've seen other people selling it on eBay for $30 or more.
Be aware if you try it however, that it too is just a bit finicky. You want to apply it SUPER thin, then make sure it's cured before you wipe it off. It's recommended you do a small test area and get your application method down before you do the whole car. If you do it right it's easy to work. If you put it on the whole car too thick you'll be cursing me and everyone else.
