Clear Coat

My dealer offers a service to get the clear coat reapplied every 6 months. They said id dont "need" to wax. Is it ok to still do so.

Never heard of this before. You can't just clear coat a car every 6 months though. I mean you could but most paint manufacturers recommend a maximum 10 mil of coatings before something needs to be stripped off.

If they are really getting a clear coat painted on then you do not want to wax it because if it isn't completely free of wax you will get what we call fish eyes in the paint or clear coat from the siliconants.

It sounds to me like they are polishing the car though. You wouldn't need to wax the car if you are getting a high quality polish every 6 months either.

They probably treat it with some polymer polish and call it clear coat.
Go buy some zaino and do it yourself.

If you enjoy waxing your car and you have time, just wax it. You'll only add protection to whatever the dealer applied.

If they're trying to get more money from you for additional applications, this type of thing is basically a high-profit center for them, and it's marketed as if it's a "better than wax" product, but you can do it yourself with your favorite carnauba or synthetic wax you can buy at Pep Boys for 10 or 20 bucks.

Haha, that depends on if he is cursed with a "buy now ask questions later" thing or not. I am one of those but I'm loving it
