Water spots on windows wont come off

As the title says, mainly the 4 passenger windows have water spots on them that will not come off. I was told by the previous owner that the car was sitting for a long time in a state where it rains a lot. I've tried window cleaner, wax, and compound. Any other recommendations? Or are the marks stuck for good on the glass?

You can start by doing a search within this forum, but since you're new I did that for you. Hope you find what you need.

I've never seen water spots that polish wouldn't take off. Were you using a buffer?

Vinegar dissolves water spots, but being acidic, it also eats paint and other things, so you need to be careful.

I will try a search. I was not using a buffer, but was scrubbing pretty hard with the wax and polishing compound.

A white vinegar solution diluted 1:1 or so is very safe so long as you wash the car afterwards. Try scrubbing it with a cotton terry towel.

You can try glass scrubbing products -- many of the auto parts stores carry them. Some have tried 0000 steel wool and a polish along with it.

If you have Mothers Chrome Polish, I'd try that with a cotton terry towel -- it certainly won't hurt anything.

You may have to get a cerium oxide polishing kit from a place like Eastwood.

The white vinager helps in the remover of these water spots, you can use Durogloss #755 Glass Water Spot Remover, AutoGlym Glass Polish and also Lake Country Glass Polishing System. One of these should do the job. You might a DA or Rotary to do it. Hope this helps out.

I don't know, that's sounding an awful lot like damage from pitting. If the car was in a desert area susceptible to high winds all the windows could be pitted. I'd inspect them up close, preferably with a magnifying glass, to make sure whether they're spots of residue or physical pits.

Tried the vinegar straight out of the bottle. Worked well but did not get all of it off. The spots are still there just not as noticeable, but big improvement. I dont think its pitting. Looks just like spots that create after it rains. I will try another one of the suggestions another day. Thanks guys

Try a clay bar. I used ICE liquid clay bar on my sunroof and the spots disappeared.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I thought the spots were less visible but that was just an illusion. So there actually wasnt much improvement.
