Car Wash "Tools"

OK, I've owned my 09 Corolla for almost a month now and already tired of paying for car washes. I want to start washing it myself... but what are the better shams/soaps/etc (w/o breaking bank)? Any hose attachments that you guys fell in love with?

-My father has some OLD sheep-skin shams I remember using on his cars when I had a kid, are these still the way to go?

Any help is appreciated!
