"fresh air" vent on car

so my car has a moldy air vent smell and i researched and found out how to clean it but it got me thinking ...

What happens if water gets into the "Fresh air" vent on the outside where your wipers are.
Where does it lead to :S doesnt the air suck air from that vent? say i go into a car wash or i wash it by hand and get water into there. Where does this water go exactly and can it get sucked inside?

very random question but thanks for the help.
LOL ps i would just pour water down to find out but ... id rather not screw it up or cause more potential mildew/mold problems

thanks

There should be a drainage hole somewheres in the piping that will take care of it. In your searched threads, there should have been something about cleaning out the drain holes too.

(gonna move this to Car Care).

Correct term is cabin air filter, older cars don't have the filter element. There should be a drainage port to allow water to flow out inside of into the car. No possibilities of outside water getting in (rain, etc.). Most modern cabin air filters that utilizes a separate air cleaner box with filter element shares the same concept as a typical engine intake air box.

For any moldy smell coming from the climate control system, it's likely from running the A/C. All cars have an evaporator. Moisture naturally form on it and there's a drain port for it as well which is why you see water coming from many cars during hot days. If that port is clogged, the water will collect then mold over time. Simply clean it out.
