Removing masking tape residue on paint surface??

had to take out my headlights. covered it with bags and masking tape. and the temperature was in mid 20 Celsius thus the tape melted a bit. some residue was left on the paint and bumper...

Is Goo Gone the best choice to remove masking tape residue on paint surface? any other suggestions?

and i heard not to use alcohol on paint surface...?

thanks.

Either will work. Alcohol might work slower thats all. I'd probably recommend 3M Adhesive remover over both of those though

I have used goo gone with good results on clear coated paint.

WD-40 will work too and it won't harm the paint.

Agree with humanoid, WD-40 is excellent at removing any adhesive.

I had some old (1 or 2 months) masking tape adhesive on my 1993 Previa that I don't treat as well as I should. I washed it today and some of the adhesive came off, and after washing I used Goo Off and got the rest. I didn't see any paint damage from either the Goo Off or the adhesive, but I'll admit that the paint wasn't in great condition to begin with.

I'm in So. Calfornia and so the paint gets lots of heat and UV. If I gave it a year, I think the adhesive would have been destroyed by the weather!

What ever you use, don't scrub too hard. Any dirt or residue can act as an abrasive and scuff the paint/clearcoat.

^ heard to let the Goo gone do its work. let pour some on top of the residue and let it sit for like a few minutes then wipe off with a towel.

Mother's cleaner wax is also a good alternative.

I've tried everything that has been mentioned, 3M Adhesive Remover is by far the best. It's not cheap (roughly $10 a can at Walmart), but it blows away Goo Gone.
