if it's plastic, remove it and clean it with a cloth. Like the cover. I got a few of it on my plastic cover and it kinda ruin the plastic finish.

Last time I cleaned the engine in the '03, I just sprayed cool engine liberally with Simple Greem and then gently misted it off with the hose. The car doesn't have any leaks, so there wasn't any real build-up. Mostly just road grit and pollen. I did go back after it dried off and spot clean a few things that actually require a cloth and a bit of attention.

The engine degreasers like Gunk, etc., will remove your painted lettering on your engine cover, if you have them... I would remove it and clean with a less aggresive cleaner...

I use Meguiar's Super Engine Degreaser, which I buy in bulk and mix in my own ratio's for my side business... Meg's also has an OTC product now that is in the Autozone, O'Reilly's type stores now, that is pretty good...

I haven't done the Camry yet this spring, that will be in a few weeks- but here is a before and after on my Explorer from last weekend which was a spray down with Ultimate Degreaser 4:1, light mist to rinse off, leaf blower to blow excess water off, and followed with Meguiar's HyperDressing at 10:1. Missed a spot under the MAF, but it came out decent.

i use simple green to wipe off all the parts, then follow up with black magic interior protectant, since it's too greasy for my interior i thought it did a great job sprucing up the plastic underneath the hood

It look like tossed salad in there and you add dressing. The plastic looks good though. Think I might use this dressing see if it'll fix my plastic cover, I think the stuff I used ruin the glossy finish of the plastic.

Isn't the word "interior" means inside the passenger area and not under the hood? It's just different environment.

I use this ( http://imageshack.us/f/190/21266175.jpg/ ) from Walmart. Cheap, dissolves grease very well, and didn't hurt anything (but I do keep it off the paint).

Spray/rinse/repeat a few times, and hit with a soft long-bristled brush where possible, and it looks pretty good. It doesn't look "done" like some above, but it looks good enough.

btw, it looks blue in the picture, but it's actually a purple bottle.

I clean it with P21S TAW, agitate it, and spray it off. Then I dress it with 303 Aerospace Protectant.

What I like about the Megs Hyper Dressing, is that it's water based, and different mixed ratios finish with different sheens. I buy it by the gallon, and mix separate spray bottles for different applications.

I use Simple Green and a hose. I run it til its at operating temp for +15 min then soak it with SG and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then I spray it off with the hose. If necessary I'll repeat or wipe/scrub really dirty stuff.
