I'll third vinegar. You may have to soak paper towels and let them sit for an hour if the marks don't come off immediately.

You can also try CLR if you are careful not to get it on the car finish. Also Bon-Ami. Our water from the Ogallala Acquifer is hard and leaves water marks on my windows when I wash the car. Vinegar is good. The products on the market to clean up plastic head light housings will also work.Regards

Vinegar works great for removing water spots. Though depending on how bad it is, it may take some extra elbow grease.

After you're done, clean up any streaks with IPA (alcohol) and seal the windows with something like Glass Science Rain Clear, or Aquapel. Much better than Rain-x IMO. Since you say it rains a lot where you live, you'll definitely love having a window sealant. Makes a huge difference.

Another thing to try is claying the windshield see if that helps any.

If the water's etched into the glass to the point where vinegar or CLR doesn't get rid of it you might need to try some glass polish (Zaino Z12 or Griots Glass Polish) and a buffer to try and remove the spots. Might be able to do it by hand but your arm will be sore afterwards.

I have a porter cable orbital buffer with the second to most abrasive foam pad and some swirl remover meguires, and i wandered onto the window for a sec to experiment, and it does a fantastic job. Keep in mind glass is like a 7 on the hardness scale, so it takes quite a lot to scratch it.

I've used this which seems to be decent at removing sap and other hard water spots.

Glass Scrubber Glass Scrubber

You'll want to go back over with whatever rain repellant you use afterwards since this will usually strip that coating off.
