Just checking to see what you guys would recommend to remove interior odor. My wife accidentally left a pack of chicken in the trunk. When we returned from vacation and opened the trunk, you can imagine. I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of the smell, any suggestios? Thanks for the help.
If you can, you may have to remove the trunk interior carpet and wash it (or better yet, replace it) down real good. Also, wash the interior of the trunk as well under the carpet. Good luck
Try baking soda. sprinkle it all over the trunk then with a damp bristle brush, scrub it all really well. Let it dry then vacuum it up. I know this works well on cat odors. There is also this stuff that they sell at pet stores call Simple Solution (I think) its a white powder that is supposed to eliminate any odor out there. Just follow the directions. I've used that when my cat had a UTI and peed on my rug and hardwood floor and it took the smell right out. If that doesn't work you might have to get all new trunk carpet.
I've seen a product called Auto Vaccine, you mix some powder with water in a cup and run your ventilation for 15 min. with the windows up and it should kill all odor.
As a professional carpet cleaner I can offer some insight on this.
The carpet needs to be cleaned and a protein spotter applied to remove any and all organic material. After that a good deodorizer (NOT a fragrance) can remove any other odors remaining. The deodorizer I use is FANTASTIC for the musty smells from AC when mold/mildew gets in there, so I have at least one product that works.
These products are not typically available to consumers. A good carpet cleaner should be able to handle your problem easily. If the person you call says "huh?" when you use the vocabulary I wrote here, call someone else until they say OK.
I've found that Febreeze works really well. I bought some floor mats from the junkyard a little while ago and they had been left out in the rain, so stunk like an old wet dog when they dried out. I tried baking soda and various odour removers, but nothing really seemed to work. However, after a few treatments of Febreeze the smell disappeared completely. You can buy it at your local supermarket.

One more deodorizer - coffee!! fresh gound coffee is a natural deodorizer. Covers up smells and even seems to neutralize them. Fresh coffee smells great, too.

Yikes!
I saw a Myth Busters episode where they put a few dead pigs in a corvette for a few weeks. They tried everything to get rid of the smell and failed. Even were it did not leak onto.
Maybe try spreading a box of baking soda back there? Even make a paste with it and scrub it into the carpets and linings?
If that fails. You might want to remove all the carpeting and liners in the trunk and wash them well. An scrub down the metal and plastic in the trunk. Anything that did get juices leaked onto I imagine is good for the garbage.
I did have a bag of meat in the back of one car (was in a sealed plastic bag) over a long weekend. I cleaned that cars trunk well, but sometimes on hot days you could still get a hint of dead cow.
Hot water extraction is the best way to completely remove it. Rent a Rug Doctor. You will not regret it.
