Headlight lens cleaning

Alright, I cannot be the only one of us with this issue. The headlight covers or whatever they're called, are getting to the point where I think more light is being blocked than is getting thru. I've seen several kits on the market for cleaning/polishing them and even heard of using toothpaste for the pumice in it makes a good polishing compound. So what say the hive here....what did you do, or use, to get them clean again? I know the dealer will do it for you, but I don't like to pay for something I can do myself. Is one system/kit/method better than the others? Which one gives the best bang for the buck?

It depends how bad the hazing is. Pics would really help us. I would try using toothpaste first to see if that helps any.

Meguiar's PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish. It's it's more severe, you can use wet 600 grit, then wet 1000 grit then wet 2000 grit sandpaper, then the PlastX.

I've used Turtle Wax and Fast Brite(as seen on tv)...both achieved an average result but the hazing came back a week later.

I'm not trying to sound sarcastic here but if you're headlights are in terrible shape then no amount of kits are going to work you may end up having to purchase new OEM lens housings.

You can find QUALITY, genuine Toyota OEM parts here...http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=215498

They have new lenses(plus tons of other parts) for sale at a discount versus the dealer's MSRP.

Hope this helps!

I used the one from Wally world, I had good results. I was a little gun shy I didn't get real aggressive with it. I think I could have gotten even better result but overall I am happy see what you think.
