I have streaky windows that make it hard to drive at night. The oncoming traffic's lights make the whole windsheild light up and impossible to see out of. We have used rain-x defogger and mass amounts of windex to help, but that just makes it worse.
I have heard about a cleaning product called something like "barber's soap" or barber's somthing. It is a powder and you add water, it is like a very light abrasive that will get up all the crap off of the windows. I would never want to use an abrasive on my car, but I have heard good things about this stuff.
I have no idea where to get it though. Has anyone heard of this and knows where to get it? Or does anyone have other suggestions to get rid of the streaks. I also want to really clean my tinted side and rear windows as well, are their different methods to cleaning tinted windows?
Try using Stoner's Invisible Glass....great glass cleaner...but is this all the time or only when it rains? My windshield gets streaky in the rain too like there is a film on it.. :-\
I usually remove the grime that gets stuck to the sides of the windshield were the drivers wiper stop its movement (paralel to windshield vertical side) and scrape it with a razorblade, it won't scratch the windshield and will get rid of the haze.

after i wash...i make sure to dry with a Chamois.....works the best for me. If i need to clean the window again...a wet chamois.
i guess right after the wash...i start first at the windows because my chamois is still hard..i figure the glass stands up to the ruff-dry chamois better than the paint so ===dry windows =0)
can't stand streaks either...that's why i won't touch the windows with any cleaner

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.

It's streaky all the time, not just when it's raining or when it's humid. It's like there is a fine oily substance that I cannot get off with regular glass cleaner.
It's not the grime that worries me, I can live with the grime that builds up in the area where the wipers don't get.
If I could see the Glass and Polish link, I would click on it.
Where would you get Stoner's Invisible Glass at? I have all the major auto parts stores near me and a walmart and Kmart too.
Thanks for all the suggestions, once I get this done, it'll really help out my night driving.
First you need to remove that Rain-X crap with some Isopropyl Alcohol. Also note that alcohol won't damage your paint, but it will instantly remove any wax that you might have on there.
You can also use a Mothers or Magic Clay Bar to remove stuff off your paint and your glass. I love Magic Clay!
Then go to PepBoys and buy some Meguiars NXT Glass Cleaner, and a good MicroFiber towel. Meguiars NXT Glass Cleaner is the best and easiest to use glass cleaner that I have ever used. It wipes off real easy and doesn't streak, especially if you use a microfiber towel. Before you use it, wash the microfiber towel in the clothes washer. Then it won't shed any lint or anything.
It's much better than Windex and a terry cloth towel!
BTW, Mothers Chrome Polish is awesome on side and rear windows.

Alright, I'm not doing the kerosene thing, but I will be buying a microfiber towel and some glass cleaner. Either Invisible Glass, Meguiars or MOC. The rubbing alcohol sounds like a good idea for prepping, since it dries so quick and is a good cleaner.
I'm glad I have all this advice now, I just need to get a few things and see what happens tonight when I'm out driving
