Well Natalie...on one hand perhaps we 'should' allow emigrants
to keep their customs but OTOH what will our children take from
seeing (in this case) women being treated as less than equals?
even cruelly in some cases?...won't it (again in some cases) be
so prevalent that it'll seem natural for our kids?...it seems to
me that if I were to move to some country with very different
customs that I'd 'want' to 'fit in'. But, that's just not their
custom I guess.
Remember the Muslim woman in Florida (I think) who applied for a
driver's licence but wouldn't allow them to photograph her
face?...WooHoo...the fur flew there...
If we allow this deviation what happens when some people from
'very' different cultural backgrounds try to introduce some
customs that we 'cannot live with'?
