2nd Generation Own a Gen2 Camry Wagon? Want to be in a movie?

My name is Tim Hansen. I'm a filmmaker from Milwaukee, WI and the proud owner of several 1987-1991 Toyota Camry station wagons. In fact, we've had over a dozen.

I'm putting out a feeler to see how many people would be keen on some kind of Gen2 Camry "Wag-In" to take place here in Milwaukee sometime next Spring. This would be a 1-day sort of event, car-show/swap-meet/barbecue sort of thing with typical car show trophies, most distance traveled, best custom, etc. I'd be willing to frame it in the context of a bigger Camry meet to include other body styles and generations but for the purposes of the film, I need Gen2 Camry Wagons exclusively.

Is this a bit ridiculous? Well, yes. The Gen2 wagon isn't exactly an enthusiast breed. It's not a sports car, it's not quirky or vintage, it is essentially a transportation appliance.

It is my contention that it is the best transportation appliance on the road, however, especially as affordable as they are with depreciation where it is. I, well, I never buy new cars. Ever. 30 MPG, tons of cargo space, a hint of style, and best of all, it's a Toyota (so you can practically weld the hood shut), and you can buy a good one for under $1500 (under $500 in some cases...ask my friends). That, for me, is the perfect car.

Still, there's basically -zero- enthusiast community for them, perhaps because they're still as common as, and for the msot part exciting as, dirt. I'm making a movie right now about Subaru people. Subaru people are a very close-knit cultish breed bound together in the sacred rites of replacing broken axles. I've also got an '86 Toyota cargovan, and Toyota Van people again are pretty unified in their oddity. I used to be way into American Motors stuff. I've had four Pacers. AMC/Rambler people...wow...I kinda miss hanging out with them. Goofball cheapskate weirdos, every one (yours truly included). There are people who are excited about Turbo Dodge Caravans. There are people who are excited about Renault Alliances.

It is time to get excited about the 2nd Generation Toyota Camry station wagon. Work on my Subaru movie is keeping me from fleshing this out in more detail at present, but there will be content on my website, http://www.economysuperstar.com , regarding this Toyota Camry Wagon thing.

Anybody have ideas? Anybody have any real trick custom Gen2 Wagons? I've got plans for mine if I can get ahold of some rust-free sheetmetal. One with hot-rod flames, one done up with woodgrain sides like the old Family Trucksters of yore, etc...

How many "fresh" Camry station wagons can you find for under a grand?
The previous owner had just put a new alternator, spark plugs, wires, cap & rotor into the car.
