Hi. I have a 1990 camry 4 cyl, auto trany that vibrates at idle and while going in reverse. I have changed all the mounts. Once im driving there is no vibration, Its not a miss or dead cyl, any help would be great
I think this is just normal. Mine vibrates a lot too when I am just sitting at a light. I havent changed the mounts or anything because I dont know how. I did already change all of the normal maitenance items such as plugs, wires/cap, rotor, 02 sensor, fuel filter, etc. Car ran better after that but the vibration at idle is still there. The car runs good and just like you said doesnt do it once your moving.
Pop it into neutral when you are at a light... that should make most of the vibration go away. Its pretty much normal for an old car... as long as the vibration is constant and not to bad.

Thanks for all the replies. By the sound of it I guess its pretty much normal. The camry has 166,000 miles on it, it still drives fine and it gets a seady 28 - 30 mpg. So ill just live with it. I have had this car since new, but my wife drives it mostly and the vibration seemed new, but then again maybe its just me
raise the warmed up, in drive, idle speed to aroun 950-1050.
if your engine is not smooth at 1000rpm, say in neutral, then you need to look at why that is (likely ignition problems)
if you adjust it like that, the car will at least idle smoothly when cold (and the computer further raises the idle) so at least when you first start driving you won't feel like something must be wrong with your car! The downside of this is increased harshness when you shift into Drive or Reverse, but the gargantuan clunk has not seemed to further deteriorate the mounts or harm the drivetrain in our car in 3+ years of this type of operation.
I think I will just leave it alone. The car is running well, took a trip yesterday of about 200 miles and returned just over 30MPG including city and highway driving. So I dont think its a tuning issue more just an annoyance.
