1990 Camry 3S-FE A/C Issue

With the weather being so cold lately, I dont run the air much other than to defrost the windows if its real humid in the car. Lately, my A/C has been acting up. It will run for a while then stop working and the A/C light on the A/C button will flash. I took it to the a/c place here in town and they checked the system and said it was full of freon still and looked like everything was in great shape. When I do run the a/c when it kicks on the car is pretty quiet, then when it turns off between cycles, it makes almost like a squeeling/grinding sound sometimes. The car still runs fine, no change in RPM or anything, then when the a/c kicks back on the noise goes away. Is my compressor going bad?

probably the compressor clutch... which means you may have to replace the whole compressor... good luck.

Jrock,

Sorry, but the only experience I have w/ this type of problem was w/ my Gen 1 Camry.

The A/C light was blinking when I tried to run the A/C. I had to install a new RPM sensor into the compressor. It was a PIA, since the system needed to be opened.

Good luck!
