Hey guys, I have an 88 4 cylinder camry and I was wondering how much fuel the tank holds, and what the general MPG on the car is. I do mixed driving city/highway everyday, and it seems I get around 150 miles for half a tank. Does this seem low to you guys? Oh I also drive moderately, meaning I don't floor it from stoplight to stoplight.
I had a 89 Sedan that averaged 34 mpg and I still have a 91 wagon that averages 32 mpg. Both have 4 cylinders.
I drove the wagon from IL/WI border to Madison, did a lot of city driving and then returned home. This was on a hot summer day with AC on the whole time. I average 36 mpg on that trip. I sold my 89 sedan last year and replaced it with a 97 Civic. My civic is averaging 27 mpg. What a dissapointment.
on flat land near sea level going 65mph, mine will almost get 40mpg, if i go 60 it will probably do 40, i get just over 300 miles a tank just running around town in fl. now here in ut. it doesnt like mountains in 5th, and in 4th it hogs gas, up here at 6500 ft, its gutless, and you cant use 5th, but in the valley that is at 4k ft. its better but mpg is still bad, but i can run the 85 octane that they have here unless i go twards the salt lake, then i need to go up to 87 and thats ok all the way to sea level
i think the tank is 15 or 16 gallons, but you can't really go by that, it isn't accurate. you have to fill up, set your trip meter, then fill up again and take the miles on your trip meter divided by the gallons of the second fillup. http://www.gasbuddy.com is neat..i use the fuel logbook on there and it works out nicely. by the way, i usually get 25-30 city and 35-40 hwy. 1990 camry I-4 LE.

For 1991, the base and DX I4 camry's were rated at 26 city 34 hwy, and the LE I4 camry's were rated at 24 city, 30 hwy.
However, for some reason, the mpg ratings differ between the years
Those numbers are about right...
The base and DX models are rated with the manual transmission and the LE was rated with the auto (not available in the manual tranny). Ratings may have changed through the years due to emisssions restrictions that changed significantly from '87 to '91.
I averaged just over 30mpg in my old manual Camry in mixed driving and I averaged just under 30mpg in my 'new' Camry - but that was turbocharged.... I'm very interested to see how the new motor is going to be for gas mileage.
I've actually gone almost 500 miles on one tank in my old Camry... that was fun. Most of the time, I fill up around 340.

On our most recent trip, ~400 miles roundtrip, we averaged 30 MPG. Not bad for "go-with-the-flow" interstate speeds with a 19 yr old car that has 189k miles with snow tires. (I just took them off today.)
Per our 1987 Camry owner's manual, the gas tank holds 15.9 gallons. 15.9 gal x 30 MPG = 477 miles per tank - MPT.
I usualy get 400-430miles a tank in the city and around 700 on long highway trips,
but im running a lean mixture, the damn gas here in norway is so expensive
we pay 6$ a gallon that makes 90$ for a full tank
i was getting the same numbers 22.4 to be exact, but i found something out, if u tighten the cable going from the trany to the butter fly, or the throtle body, it will make the trany shift sooner, insted of streaching out the gears to higher rmp....
