2nd Generation help with headers please.

I'm in the process of installing PaceSetter headers on my 3sfe engine. All is going alright, until I find that a mount for my engine/trans is in the way of the place made for the O2 Sensor... Its too long, so the mount is in the way of me plugging the silly O2 sensor into the headers. ARGH!!! Anyhow, I've thought about a way to solve my problem, first I'm thinking of trying to find a new oxygen sensor that is not as long as the old one is, so that i can squeeze it inbetween the hole and the mount. The second thing I'm thinking of doing is taking the header to a muffler shop and asking them to relocate the sensor hole on the headers themself.

These headers anyways, were not really designed for a 2nd gen camry... they were made for the 86-89 celica GT which runs the same engine (3sfe) which is why I got these particular headers, cause they were designed to fit my engine(and I couldn't find much in the way of performance headers for my car ). I'm just having a frustrating time with this O2 sensor... is there any way to eliminate the O2 sensor on the 2nd gen camry by chance...?

anyways, not all has been horrible with my exhaust upgrade so far. I've already got my HKS high power muffler in perfectly

2nd Generation

it seems that you might just be able to get it relocated just make sure that they dont leave any leaks where the whole was..... and btw where did you find a pacesetter for a 3sfe all i could find was 3sge.....

http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/PAC701155.htm is what I got... PaceSetter headers for the Celica GTS. It bolts up fine to the engine, but the down pipe is a bit tricky... and then of course the durn O2 sensor (my current issue). At anyrate, SFX performance has those headers, I've seen them on other web venders as well. But SFX was the first one that I ran into. Might be able to shop around a little bit to get a better price, but anyhow. I'll get pics of it up once I figure it all out if you're interested. also note about the picture on the website is misleading... its a generic pic they have for most al pacesetter headers. its not the actual header that is pictured there.

You have some options:

1. Cut off the O2 sensor mount and have it welded on somewhere else. The existing hole will need to be patched.

2. Make a plate to block off the hole for the O2 sensor. Have a O2 sensor bung welded on for a screw in type O2 sensor.

Buy a universal single wire O2 sensor (screw in type). You'll have to splice the wiring together.

No, you can't eliminate the O2 sensor.

Why would you want to terminate the O2 sensor? If anything you would want a better (wideband) O2 sensor ...

Aren't there 2 sensors on the 3s-fe exhaust manifold? Does the pacesetter header have two holes for them?

its at the end where all four pipes meet up, so yeah its in the collector where the hole is. anyhow... if it was further up I wouldn't be having this problem :-D

well...tomorrow, err today for me actuall... 4AM here, I'm takin my headers to someone who can weld and I'm just going to describe to them how I want to change it... I've already engineered a solution to my delima I guess... hope it all goes according to plan. If it all works out, then tuesday I'll be out on the road seeing how the car is with this thing in. I'm honestly not expecting all that much, but we'll see...

I'm sooooooo close to having this project finished. Today I got almost everything workin, but... one of my exhaust manifold studs stripped the inside threads of the engine head! !!! I now have to take my car and get it towed to a machine shop in order for them to repair this so that i can put a new stud into the engine head... Otherwise the headers will leak exhaust all the time... But I'm gettin' so d*mn close!

Anways, I've got my o2 sensor in. I moved the hole for it to the down pipe. I will have pics up sometime very soon I hope... although I'm terribly busy, workin on this and gettin ready to go back to school tho...

hey all! I've got everything in and working now... I'm glad that one's over! but anyhow, now my exhaust is really.... loud :-\ I need to find a cat converter that I can put in further down the pipe without spending too much cash, since its running low... fixing that stripped engine head cost me 50 dollars plus a ten here and there for other things. Any ideas on a cheap high flow cat that won't take too much time and effort to install?
