2nd Generation Automatic Seat Belt Problem

Hey guys,
I've been Googling for about 3 days now and haven't come up with a good answer as to how to diagnose and repair my driver-side automatic seat belt. It's stuck in the extended position and doesn't retract when I close the door. The passenger side seat belt works fine, though. Anyone have any thoughts?

2nd Generation

New development. I found a post where a poster recommended popping the maintanance panel on the center pillar thing behind the driver seat and manually bringing the belt back to the retracted position. Well, I brought the belt all the way back manually, then when I opened the door, it automatically went into the extended position. So, from what I can tell, the motor is fine and it detects when I open the door. Could it be that the sensor doesn't detect when the door shuts? Is there a control board that might be bad?

Any thoughts?

The seat belt actuator switch is located in the door latch. Remove the door trim panel and inspect wires/switch.

2nd Generation Control board

Just got back from the car again. I inspected the two switches on both ends of the track and they both work fine. The motor get's power to extend when you open the door, but there is no power going to the motor when you close the door. That's why it's not retracting when you close the door. So that narrows it down to a control board issue.

Now the question is: Where is it located? A wiring diagram of the car would help, but I don't have one.

EDIT: I didn't think to check the relays. So, it could be the control board (if there is one) or a relay.

Fixed the wrong problem

Well, I fixed my power mirrors. Turns out there was a fuse box under the dash. Keep in mind this is my first car So I ended up fixing the wrong problem

I'm going to take a look for a panel between the shifter and the e brake lever. I would have never thought to look there, so thanks. As far as 88le, I don't know what you're talking about I apologize for my noobidity

Seatbelt computer is underneath the center console. Theres no removable panel, so your going to have to remove the whole damn thing.

Stuff buried behind the dash

The seatbelt ECU is visible after removal the cover (Just pry it up) on the console under hand brake handle. Unplug the wiring connector to the ECU and perform continuity test for drivers side door switch circuit. Make sure that the door latch tongue closes completely after hitting the lock striker.

Your right.

All this time I thought there wasn't a cover you could remove. But I just checked and there is a cover that pops off.

Sweet deal, thanks guys! I'm going to dig around tomorrow after work to try to find it and test it. Hopefully that's the problem. If it's not, then it's a bad relay.

Just curious, but I manually moved it back to the retracted position and disconnected the motor so it would stay locked there. Would that pass inspection in PA do you know?

there's a lil cover on the B pillar... take that off then you can manual rotate a wheel that's attached to the motor to roll the belt back/forth

I found the computer in that panel. I'm not too terribly worried about it right now. the belt does it's job and will pass inspection, and the passenger belt works just fine. I'm a little more worried about getting the passenger side window working, getting some aftermarket fog lamps, and a new paint job. I'll post pictures in a few. My camry is a rust bucket
