Are you asking how to replace a headgasket? Or if any of us has experienced a blown headgasket?

Is your engine a I4 or V6?

the head needs to come off regardless, so I'd just do a valve job and timing belt replacement now. And make sure the machine shop checks the head for warpage.
I'd do a compression check first if possible. But with a blown head gasket, it may not be possible to do an accurate check. If the plugs are dry of oil and no oil burning then maybe i'd just chance it and hope the rings are still good. The car's milage would be my guide, less than 150,000 you might be ok.
