i know its not nessesary, but i am the king of useless but cool loking things..
so has anyone tryied installing hood pins on their camry, and if they had have they run into any problems? the ones i got are just the standard old hoodpins. about to read through the instructions now, but curious if anyone has tried or thought about doing this themselves?
also im a bit uneasy about putting screw in the hood mainly because im getting a nice clean paintjob soon, and i doubt that the hood will keep the threading.. so i might use a simliar size nut/bolt
I haven't put them on my Camry but I did put them on another car many years ago. One of the most critical things is to choose a location from under the hood where the pins will mount, not just where you think they will look good from the outside. The pins need a good location where they can be solidly mounted to the radiator support, and end up symmetrically located with respect to the outer skin of the hood. It's really not a difficult job, but just be very carefull and take your time with it. The metal thickness of the hood I think is .65mm and can withstand sheet metal screws being installed/uninstalled a few times, as long as you don't overtighten them. That's another critical area to be careful with. The round chrome finish plates are probably thinner than the hood sheet metal. The screws need to be put in as straight as possible, else they will damage the plates and look like crap.
EDIT: I like Tommy's idea better. I don't think I'd install them unless I was modding for an overall Nascar look. I also just remembered that I put a set on an old Simplicity garden tractor I had several years ago. They looked cool on that.
well i got em just in case i decide to put em on later. it wasnt something that i wanted to do right away, but more or less something that i planned to possibly do after a few other things were put together
i guess if i totally wanted em on right away, i would buy those 3m tape stick on pos hood pins.. tho i wouldnt.. because that would just be sad..

thanks for the replies
While those are totally rice, fake, shamefull, gay, and other assorted words I can't use here, they could actually serve a usefull purpose. Stick them on just to see if you like the overall appearance they give you. Leave them on for a couple weeks maybe.... If you like them, then great... You can install the real ones. If not, just pop them off and the only thing that's been damaged will be your dignity.
