autocrossing

alright, so I asked about tire suggestions in another thread a few days ago. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm thinkin I'll try to get a set for just my front two tires since they're the ones that take the beating... Anyhow, I'm also planning on switching my oil over to sythetic oil also when i change my oil this coming weekend. I'd like to get a racing oil filter too, but none of the joints around town have them in stock for my engine... so I'm just gonna go with a regular one for now. I'm also wondering about the KYB gr2 struts. How much do you guys think they'll improve the handling of my car? Anyone know of anything I can do beyond that? would be nice to get full coilover and everything suspension.

anyhow, autocrossing a 2nd gen camry is crazy enough I guess, but it's still fun.

If you want to be serious with auto-x with a camry, leave it stock. You can get the KYB struts because they are just regular replacements, not going to make it handle any better. I assume you're running H-Stock?

If you want to be competitve, learn how to drive the car as is. If you can stay competitive in H-stock, then eventually you can consider doing some mods, although I wouldnt on a gen2, youll get to the point where you are driving the car as best as possible, but you are still getting beat.

Dont worry about sythetic oil, or whatever a racing oil filter is....(?) Its an old car, just make sure your coolant is good, (auto trans i assume?) tranny fuild is good, DYNO oil change is recent, and that you have decent tires.

well, if you're running STS already, dont know what type of cars/people youre running against, but I imagine its pretty hard to be competitive against them. STS is really competitive, but you can use it to your advanage and go ahead and lower the car, get a swaybar, and get some good track tires. If you're already in the class, you might as well max the car out for the class, otherwise you are at a huge disadvantage.
