2nd Generation 1991 V6 Crank Pulley "Wobbly" at Idle

I picked up a new project yesterday, a 1991 Camry Station Wagon V6. It has a myriad of problems that need attention, but one of the less straight forward ones is the wobbly crank pulley (the pulley that drives the accessory/serpentine belt.)

At idle I can see the pulley wobbling; the pulleys on the alternator and water pump, etc are not. When I increase the RPMs to 1500 or 2000 the pulley seems to stabilize and appears to run smoothly.

I'd think that if the pulley had been bent during a timing belt change then the problem would not go away at higher RPMs.

Any ideas?

The pulley may be a two-piece design. Someone may have damaged it when they pulled it off at the last timing belt change. This can happened if a clamp type puller is used instead of a bolt on. Best find a replacement, try a junkyard. It could just look like the problem goes away at higher RPM, but is still there.

You need to change the pulley. The crankshaft is massively strong and it will break before it will bend! So it's a safe bet the problem is the pulley. Easy to pull one at a junkyard.
