Hello all. This site kicks. I've been searchin for a week trying to find a site like this in a quest to find some aftermarket wheels. Wealth of info here.
Camry does rock indeed. 1989 at 82K all stock and Ive had it 2 1/2 years never really one problem and its now a pretty darn old car now. Buyin another one when this one finally kicks
It does need new tires and im going to put something somewhat cool on it. Rims and tires. Its got the stocker 14 steelies on it now that hav been painted 10 times.
I started knowing nothing about rims and have alot of knowledge now from other and mostly this site.
Anyways my budget is 600 maybe 700 max for tires & wheels. used or new. Been thinkin 17 or 18s.
Question I have is Ive never run a big wheel like that ever. What would most people recomend for coolness and practicalness. My camry is not a show car. It is a very dependable daily driver. That i want to spruce up a bit and make much cooler while keepin practical.
I would go no bigger than 17", expecially if your not lowered. Personally, Id go for 16"s, cheaper rims, cheaper tires, and its a good size for a gen2.
$600 you could easily pick up a set of used rims, get new tires if they dont have them, and then youve got 2-300 left for some lowering springs and new struts.
If you arent going to lower it, 15" is as big as you want, otherwise youll look like you're driving a 4x4.
Youll need 5x100 rims, check out ebay, just search for wheels and there is an option to search for wheel and tire packages, lots priced in the $300-400 range, shipped, expecially if you go used.
Another reason to avoid 17+" rims, youll kill the power of the car, big wheels=more rolling resistance. Gen2 is slow enough as it is.

you might have to run spacers with 45mm offset... i'm running 40 offset and it's pretty close to the struts already... 16s is fine i'm running 16 myself.. you'll have to run 205/50/16 tires to get the right speed on the speedo... get some celica gt rims those fit perfect and chances are it already has the right tire on there

Good catch on the offset of those wheels. I really don't want to get involved with spacers.
Celica GT rims sound like a good way to go, although I still haven't totally ruled out Aero steel racing wheels, typically used on NASCAR.
Funny people mentioning the celica rims as i was wondering about that anyways. I guess any year celica rim will fit. I mean I know the bolt pattern is the same but I not sure about the offset. Ill have to check on that. I think that 40+ is most you can go on gen 2.
Ive wonderd bout cavaies and neons and stratus rims to. I think all of them are 5X100. Really wonder bout offset on them.
I will not be lowering this car. Too much work it seems like. Anyways its pretty easy gettin in and out as it is. I pretty long legged.
Maybe I jus go with 16s. I not quite sure though why a larger rim would kill power or make it look like a 4X4 though. I thought bigger rims just made for shorter tires. Figured it kinda balanced out
The 15" Celica rims look great on the Gen 2 Camry. They give the car a lowered appearance without lowering it. They're also pretty cheap and you don't gotta worry about bending rims when you go on a bumpy road.
Check out my before and after shots:
They make a huge difference for the car. The car looks nicer but it's still not enough, so I'm going to be putting my car on Intrax's just before winter (great idea just before a Michigan winter, eh?)

Hey Phatphantom, do you still have your OEM wheelcovers? I'm casually looking for a set because 2 of mine broke when I was pulling them off, and I've still got a ways to go before I'll be in the market for new tires (and hence, wheels).

Actually, I'm holding on to my steelies and hub caps. If I wasn't so anal about keeping all my stock parts, then I would definitely give them to you.
