hey I have the same problem with my 85 camry I have heard about a few causes.
(bad spark plugs, spark plug wires, worn dist cap & rotor, )
some cars it was the fuel pump and or filter that needed to be replaced.
although a fuel pump is quite expensive
but you should try putting some fuel tank additive/cleaner (for the fuel pump/injectors) in your gas tank along with higher octane gas-for cleaning the fuel pump & injectors, because they can get a sludge build up restricting the flow of gas. take it for a good run on the freeway letting it drive @ higher rpms for short bits to really get the cleaner to the pump and injectors. (this has cured some ppls problems)
try reaserching seafoam cleaner in the general camry discusion forum
I have also heard that it could be sludge build up in the throttle body, the solution is throttle body cleaner you can pick up at almost any automotive store....throttle body is located inside right after the air intake hose attaches to the EFI
finnaly it could also be carbon build up on the valves, and valve guides in the engine... which restricts them from either opening or closing causing misfiring, bad acceleration, and eventually stalling, to cure this they need to be replaced or cleaned, an expensive job also.
i havent gotten to this step yet.. right now I am checking the fuel pressure to see if it is my fuel pump
