I know some Toyota's are equipped with an OEM external amplifier. Was this an option on the Gen II Camrys? IF my car has one, where would I find it? The original AM/FM Cass. unit was not working, so I got rid of it. I'm just wondering if my stereo connectors are now going straight to the speakers, or if there's a hidden amp somewhere.

Nope, no amps in gen2's, wires run straight to the speakers.

Correction: Some LE's had a Premium sound system that does have the external amp. (Extremely Rare) My first LE (88) had it under the cup holder in front of the engine CPU. I agree with Tommy, your DX won't have an Amp.

I know in the Gen3's they're located beneath the passenger seat.
