Electrical blinking 89 v6 LE

Backstory: This car recently died on my wife and it was determined that the alternator was bad. I tested the old alternator at Autozone and it failed on all levels. I installed a new alternator and bought a new battery (the old one had one bad cell). When I connect the battery and open the car door, all lights are bliking (on-off-on-off) on the car (front, rear, blinker, console...the works) , and when trying to start the car....nothing .

Before I bought the car back in 2001, the previous owner had installed a car alarm for it. I disconnected the alarm because it goes off as soon as I connect the new battery (this has never happened before on battery changes).

Is it possible that the alarm could disable the car like this and make it blink on-off-on-off? The little alarm light is blinking rapidly and that has never happened before.
Anyone have any ideas or recognizes these symptoms?

Thanks

/Christian

looks like it has a starter kill ciruit somewhere in there....u can always jump the starter to the battery.. but it won't solve the problem in the long run..

Look under the dash for a bundle of wires coming off the steering column. You may have to remove the lower dash piece and steering column covers.

What your looking for is a relay spliced into the ignition harness. Whenever the alarm is activated or going off it triggers this relay and kills the starter.

Remove the relay and splice the wires back together. Should be a black/white wire (black with white stripe).

Thanks guys for the input. Yepp, had to remove console covers to get to the alarm. I just removed the fuse and disabled the alarm (don't really need it as the car is in a garage nowdays).
