2nd Generation Vibrations...

Hi everyone,

My 91 camry has been jerking when I put it into gear (automatic) and it tends to vibrate at speeds just above idle.

Do you think it's motor/transmission mounts? Are they expensive to replace?

Thanks!

Motor mounts do make it kick when you put it into gear. It also will make it kick when you shift gears. To check your motor mounts, turn car on and leave it in park. Open your hood, rev your engine with your hand by the throttle linkage. If you see the engine move a lot more than it should then its most likely your motor mounts. By vibrate, do you mean shudder? If it shudders and vibrates bad when you shift gears, it could be a transmission problem.

Engine vibration on 1500 rpm that is transmitted trough the steering column could be due to defective harmonic balancer (crank pulley) or loose torque converter to flexplate bolts.
