i have a 89 camry 5 speed i need to put new motor in. looking on ebay i find a few 3sfe motors but some don't look the same as mine.
I ask because one motor that's diffrent looking says it can go in a 91 camry. and then one other guy selling the same motor says it will fit in a 92-96.
do all the 3sfe work with the same ECU???
Are all 3sfe the same??
there's the 3sfe USDM and the 3sfe from japan you can tell by the square spark plug tops...which tops out at 160hp instead of the USDM 115hp... there's also a second gen 3sfe that comes in the rav4 which also has 160hp... as for the ECU i have no idea... my guess is it would.... the JDM one fits into the USDM one as for the 2nd gen one i have no idea

Early 3S-FEs have a different valve cover and the top of the spark plug boot is round. Later ones are square.
Later 3S-FEs have a 8 bolt crank instead of 6 bolt.
The engine bolts in place and works with your existing ECU.
If the engine comes as a long block, you'll have to use your existing accessories (ac compressor, alternator, etc..). You may also have to use your existing intake and exhaust manifold.
Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer and that theres a warranty on the engine.
wait wait... so is the USDM rav4's 3sfe 160HP?!?! Why is it so much greater than 115 in the stock 2nd gen?
/\ /\ what he said.... /\ /\
Is this engine an eligible swap into the Gen II ?
Sounds like a good alternative if it is. Probably would be easier than a 3S-GTE. Certainly not as much power, but nevertheless a very nice increase.
cause it's the 2nd gen 3sfe... it's also OBD2 it probbly won't be a direct swap.. i mean new ecu is needed..same reason why the 1st gen 3sgte is 205 and 3rd gen is 245..things get changed.... just get the jdm 3sfe would be the fastest way if your engine's dying

Good point about the OBD II. That would no doubt include a whole set of issues itself.
