3sfe valve cover installation?

Hey guys, how do you intall the valve cover on a 3sfe motor? I brought it to a shop to get is diagnosed and they removed the valve cover and didnt put it back on. They gave the car back with the valve cover off with 4 large nuts and 4 large washer type things. How do you properly install it back on the engine? Thanks.

put a new gasket onto it and put it on, put the washer thingies on the plug tubes then the nuts, tighten them to seat the gasket good, then a few days later tighten the nuts to where its almost level with the top of the tubes, but dont rush it

alroght cool, thanks man, thats what i figured but didnt wanna do it wrong and mess things up. When putting the washer in, do you put it in facing up or down? The washer has a flat side, and a side where it rises, do you put it in so the side where it rises faces up?

Flat side faces up.

One side is rubber and the other side has a metal washer. The metal washer faces up.

This reminds me, when I bought my camry I found it with an injector wire stuck in the valve cover, so it leaked a shitload of oil. Just make sure you don't catch the injector wires in there.

Don't forget the goop!

clean the mating surfaces w/ acetone
probably ought to get new tube seals (grommets?)
around the circle parts on the ends of the cams are you're supposed to squirt some gasket maker on it
Wouldn't hurt to use a torque wrench w/30mm socket for tube nuts

look it up in factory manual--look at stickies at top of general camry forum

Those should already be sealed. You can pop them off / unbolt them and reseal if you want, but its not necessary unless theres leaks.

I wasn't very clear, was i-- I meant on the gasket mating surface of the cylinder head where it curves to make space for the cams to come through.

Quote:
5. INSTALL CYLINDER HEAD COVER
(a)Apply seal packing to the cylinder head as shown in the figure
Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00080

^ I don't think its really necessary as the valve cover and gasket is shaped to go over those curves. But on the otherhand applying sealant (RTV silicone) to those locations wouldn't hurt.

So its really up to you, if you want to use sealant or not.
