Looking at Gen 2 V-6 LE

Greetings

I have a 92 Cressida and don't like it after taking the head off and reading about the HG issues (and getting the cost of a head rebuild, not including all the other stuff).
Cruising the Lexus site there is a list of all the posts dealing with issues on the LS. Is there a thread or similar post for me to check out +/- issues with the Gen 2 V-6 LE? Looking in the archives isn't getting me there. I definately want to know the skinny on this sled B4 I buy. I like the BMW 325's, but parts are outta here. I'd rather have a Camry from Japan.

Here in So Cal I can find a nice 91 LE.
Peace out.

In my experience with the 2vzfe equipped cars (Camry/ES250) these are the things of note:

1. They tend to need the (automatic) transmissions replaced/rebuilt at around 120K.

2. Compared to the 3sfe (4 cyl) there isn't as big of a power difference as you would think, however the 6 has more torque, nice for passing/pulling hills.

3. Maintence is more difficult, try changing the spark plugs on the rear bank. (do a search in this forum)

All in all, I love either setup. But prefer the 3SFE 4cyl for most of the driving due to economics, as it is easier to maintain, and better on fuel.

^^ All true...if you're thinking about a 2VZ, I would recommend a 5-speed. They're a lot of fun to drive and not bad off the line--I'm no street racer but most of the Hondas/Integras in town have been beaten into submission by me at some point or another.

My Camry is getting close to 400,000km and I haven't had ANY unexpected problems. Only the usual wear and tear items: clutch, brakes, rad, O2 sensor, etc...even compared to all of the Corollas I've owned, it's by far the most bullit-proof car I've ever had. But like es250 said, a little harder to work on (transverse V6 engines should be outlawed--definitely a better set-up on the rwd Cressidas).

I can't remember for sure, but I think 1990 was the last year they were actually built in Japan. The North American made Camrys are still excellent, but not quite as flawless as their Japanese counterparts. Anyone please feel free to correct me.

Screw the Bimmer, you wanna Camry.

For what I know, the Camry's here (hawaii), they are all still made/built in Japan . I've been looking at VIN numbers of Camrys (a bunch of them) on sale here and they all start with J. This goes up to the current "2007" model also. I have not seen a "4" Camry here yet.

This could also be a reason why there's so much freaken Gen2 ~ Gen4 Camrys still on the road - Gen1 are pretty much rare since parts are hard to come by. There's also tons and tons of Gen5 and Gen6 too.

I do know that in the United States, since the Kentucky plant is making Toyota, I'm quite sure that a majority of the Camrys made in United States are assembled there with some imports from Japan.

1990 started the American Camry(Kentucky, I believe). My former 90' was a "4". My 88' of course is a "J"
