Changing the front speakers on a 91 camry

Can someone provide me with a walk through and changing the front speakers on a 1991 camry sedan?

I got a pair of 3.5" to replace what is there. It looks like there is some funky enclosure.

Anyway I can't even figure out how to get the dash off.

Nevermind, OMG a royal PITA!

The trick is to find the hidden bolts.

Once I did that it was not so tough.

I did those first I got a nice pair of 5 1/4" from Crutchfield. Complete kit included very easy to install.

Since they are so small though I need to put in a subwoofer but overall replacing the four has definately increase the fidelity of my system

What did you do?

Yeah I just broke my stupid lower dash panel trying to find these HIDDEN bolts....GRR!! Well, I found the last bolt on the upper left corner of the lower dash panel but I also found that there was no way in God's green earth that I could access it!! How would you get to that bolt without cutting a hole through the panel to access it? I got so mad that I just ripped the entire panel off and broke the brackets and bolt... But now my interior that used to look mint, just looks likea ghetto car with the dash light illumination control and cruise control switch just dangling...And now I have to use pliers in order to pop the hood.

So does anybody know how to get to that last bolt so that I may re-install my somewhat broken lower dash panel?

So...I found that the front dash speaker enclosure has 1 speaker facing the driver, and it also has another mounting location for what looks like a subwoofer but it's just a simple flex cover probably to enhance the bass smoothness. I would take out the speaker and fake subwoofer cover thing and install two speakers that fit into the enclosure making it 4 speakers up front. But what size/type of speakers would fit into this thing, the enclosure seems to require some specific shape and screw placement in order to fit the speakers in there...Any help with this?

That is not the bolt, you do not have to remove it. I thought the same thing. I almost busted out my cutting wheel

There are little plastic pieces on the dash and use a flat head screw driver to pop them out and you will see the bolts there. So there should be 4 bolts on the bottom and I think two on the top of the lower dash to the left and right side of the steering column behind the plastic accessory pieces.

The enclosures that house the front speakers are not 4 speakers. They are some fancy smancy thing toyota put in. The best I can figure is it helps improve the bass response of the front speakers.

let me know if you have trouble finding them and I will post a pix.

changing my dash speakers was a breeze.. fuck the 3" piece of shits, i put 5 1/4" Pioneers in the bottom hole, with the insulation in it and wired them up to a 425watt jensen amp, w0w... they were nice and loud!!! untill i blew them by playing a fucking police siren cd. (not a smart idea.) oh well, time to buy new ones!!!

Heh heh, this amuses me...I don't remember having this kind of trouble when I removed the dash for the first time--it seemed kinda intuitive.

Next time you're going to try removing dash panels that you're unfamiliar with, go to the wrecker's first and see how everything goes together on a car that doesn't matter worth a damn. This is one of the nice things about driving an older camry...there are lots of them in scrap yards.
