How many degrees approx is your timing off? Have you shorted T and E1 trminals in the diagn. box prior to checking the timing?

When cylinder #1 is at TDC on compression stroke, the rotor should point to #1. Make sure its at TDC on compression stroke, not TDC on exhaust stroke.

TDC on compression stroke =

1. Oil seal retainer mark aligned with the center of the small hole on the camshaft timing pulley.

2. Mark on crank pulley aligned with "0" mark on lower timing belt cover.

well i tried adjusting and re-adjusting the ignition timing, and right now its as close as it is going to get and it is still mis-firing, I recently had just changed the timing belt could the cause be something to do with that, like the camshaft not being marked off properly

Yes.

Check the alignment of the cam and crank.

ok well Ive realigned the crankshaft and camshaft and set the dist rotor to #1 but the car wont even start now, the engine only turns over but doesnt start.
I aligned the camshaft pully is on its 0-mark with the small hole on the camshaft pulley
and pointed the crank pulley mark to the 0 on the timing indicator then put the timing belt back on making sure that none of the pulleys moved

I really need to get it running and I may take it to a mechanic but that would be a waste if I could do it myself
anyone know what I may have done wrong?
