Front wheel bolt replacement ?

When I was putting on the snow tires yesterday ('89 4cyl 5 speed) I broke off two of the bolts (what is the exact name of this part?) that hold the front wheel on. They were rusty and seized. I should have oiled them last spring. Anyway, has anyone replaced one of these? I am reading the manual and it looks like you have to remove the caliper and rotor...but then can you just hammer the old bolt out and put a new one in??
thank you,
James (in vermont)

be careful tho you may be running on a really worn spendle and wheel bearing... im going to let you know now if you start hitting around and make the spendle go out or the wheel bearing you have to replace the whole setup and its 150 bucks for the kit... you cant get the spendle any other way i replaced all the spendles and wheel bearings in my car because i ride on dayton wire wheels and they will give old worn parts a run for their lives trust me

Wink

What you need are replacement lug bolts, which are a few bucks each at any auto parts store.

The procedure to remove the old ones is exactly as you stated.

2 bad lug bolts are irrelevant with the wheel spindle or bearing.
One has nothing to do with the other.

It's not surprising for lug bolts to go rusty, especially on an '89 model.

^ I'm sorry, but your wrong in this case.

The wheel studs go through the hub. They have nothing to do with the steering spindle, which is a different part.

Spindle bolts to the strut and LCA (lower control arm) and has many parts attached to it.

See pic:

The lug bolts are taped out to remove and pressed in to replace...
