1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Looking to buy another gen2, I knew the car wasnt running, but the guy said his mechanic told him it was the distributer.
I know what happens when the distributer dies, car will crank, but not start.
this car, you turn the key and nothing happens. all the lights turn on, battery is good, everything works, but turning the key yields nothing, so its not the distributer.
first thought was the neutral safety switch, BUT he said when the car died, he was driving down the road and it just cut off. said he waited for a few minutes, tried again and it cranked, but wouldnt fire. had it towed to a shop, where it sat for a few hours. when the mechanic tried to start the car, it fired right up, he started driving it and a few miles later it died again, now the car does nothing. turn the key, everything turns on but the engine.
any suggestions?

wires looked good, starter isnt even clicking, very much like the neutral switch is dead, but the fact that it died while moving kinda kills that. oh and i checked the fuse block, everything looked ok, although i didnt have a voltmeter to check 100%

Fixed the car - small brown connector on the starter was unhooked, and i replaced the ignition switch, not sure if it was one or the other or both, but doesnt matter because......
ITS MINE!
